Lettuce Celebrate!

I haven't used my Beatrix Potter / The Tale of Peter Rabbit stamp set from Crafter's Companion in quite awhile, so I pulled this cute stamp & sentiment to make a fun little card.

The "cabbage" looks a lot better IRL, but whatever the result, I had so much fun making it! The leaves were cut from a shiny Core'dinations cardstock with an oval Spellbinders die, then embossed with the "lace" Fiskars texture plate in my BigShot. I sanded & distressed them with my new favorite tool, Ingvild Bolme's Comfort-Craft Tools Distressing Tool from Prima.

I colored the image with Copics, and added Polar White FlowerSoft to the tail and Glossy Accents to the watering can. I really like how the Recollections gemstones align so well to the Spellbinders diecut.

The sentiment piece was stamped with brown Memento ink, then cut out with the banner die from a•muse studio's Cupcake Toppers set and sprayed it with Meadow Green Tattered Angels glimmer mist. The background papers are shiny papers from Recollections (Michaels), and it's all topped off with that gorgeous brown "silk crush" May Arts ribbon.

Pretty Spooky

Wow, I'm so honored to have made the Top 3 for Dude Time Doodles' Think Pink challenge. I'm so excited I could poot! (Please see my card to understand that last statement!) I couldn't resist taking up their invitation to participate in this week's challenge, and I'm excited to be trying out for their Guest Design Team call too. Won't you join me?! The deadline is October 18.

I don't usually do this, but I combine two color challenges onto this one card. For the background color scheme I used the Brown theme at DYSU, and I incorporated the Pink necessary for the Dude Time Doodles challenge.

Apart from the color, the other part of the Dude Time Doodles challenge is to use their fantastical freebie, Eyegor. Isn't he just something else! The hanging pieces are actually Shrinky-Dinks that I printed out and shrunk in the toaster oven. The middle one has a tiny Eyegor on it!

For the layout, I went to the always-great Fetch-a-Sketch.

Inspired by the theme at Stamptacular Sunday Challenge, I tore the background pieces, and used my distressing tool on all the edges, including ones I cut with deckle scissors. I also sponged some Antique Linen distress ink onto the image piece.

Thanks for the inspiration everyone!

Update: Whoo hoo! This card won me the November Guest Designer Spot at Dude Time Doodles!

Happy Freedom Day!

How could I pass up making a 4th of July card with good ole Daisy Bumblethorpe‽ And how could I pass up referencing Futurama yet again?

There is an actual Freedom Day in the U.S.: Feb. 1, marking the signing of the proposition for the 13th amendment, which outlawed slavery. In 1865; the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863. Juneteenth, marking June 19, 1865, when abolition was actually announced to those it most effected, is also referred to as Freedom Day. How can we celebrate our freedom if we're not all free‽

Put into cardmaking terms, I simply love the combo of stars and stripes. I even grabbed some gem star stickers from the $1 bin for the occasion, and I don't buy (or say) bling without darn good reason. I based the coloring on myself, since I'm sending this to my folks.
