A Farmlet Thank-you

This week at the Pile It On Challenge we want to see Patterned Paper/Designer Paper on your creations. Our challenge is sponsored by The Doodle Garden, and they generously let me use this great Chicken digi stamp.

When I started cardmaking I disliked the idea of using pre-printed papers, especially pricey designer ones, when I could stamp and emboss ... but gee, aren't they fun‽ I was quickly converted. I don't want to say I hoard patterned paper, so I won't! but I did grab this chicken-themed DP some time ago and have been saving it for the perfect time...

My husband's co-worker has a farmlet and he's given us a couple dozen fresh eggs this season and I wanted to make his family a thank-you card.

I adapted the basic Center Step Card tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers in SCAL and cut it on Silhouette Cameo. This made it so much easier to create and cut the layers.

You might remember my story about the rooster that took up residence in our neighborhood last summer ... darn thing woke us up at dawn for months (which is ridiculously early in the summer), but once he was re-homed to a farm I find that I sort of miss him. We live in the City, but laws have loosened recently and I know several people who keep chickens. Anyhoo, long story long, I've about how beautiful chickens can be and I've taken to collecting chicken-themed craft items. For me, this card is really about this rooster-patterned paper!

  3. by the way, I don't know why, but I've become rather fond of chicken and roosters on stamps and paper too. and I have that paper.
A few years back, I was still living in NJ so pre 2010, I read an article about people raising chickens in Brooklyn and we had a loose one roaming the streets of our town, we figured he's become someone's barbeque. We see them roaming around here and it doesn't seem weird, there's just too many weirder birds around.
