Pilin' on the Primary Sport

Our theme at Pile It On is Primary Colors and/or Something Beginning with "S". The only really rule is to be inspired by more than one papercrafting challenge. We're sponsored by KennyK Stamps, and I used their "Need For Speed" Race Car Driver digi stamp.

KennyK Stamps has closed its doors on June 30, 2017. We have had such fun working with the team here at Pile It On and loved seeing all the wonderful cards and talent by the DT and those that have entered the challenges! We wish you all the best and are happy to sponsor one last time!! If you have any questions about our closing you can read our FAQ here or email us at stamps@kennykstamps.com. Rock Your Crafts with KennyK Stamps!

I created a Soccer-themed penny slider card, using circle dies and die-cut cardboard circles instead of actual pennies.

Hannah & Friends #277: Birthday + Animal/Person
Mudra Crafts Challenge: Interactive Card

Super thumbs-up!

I had some crafty fun today making this Congratulations card with "Thumbs Up Kid" by KennyK and my favorite Flip-It Card Sizzix die. The papers are scrap pieces from a long-hoarded Recollections pack. I printed the image on neon green paper and colored it with Copic markers and Wink of Stella pens. The sentiments are heat-embossed in neon orange on wood embellishments. I traced the sentiments with a black pen, and edged the word bubbles with a black marker. I added borders with glittery-green tape.

Challenges/Inspiration:
KennyK's Krafty Krew #191 : Fancy Folds
Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper: Anything goes with Patterned Paper background (2nd entry)

Update: This made the Top 3 for KennyK's Krafty Krew #191!

Super Dad...on the road

I was thousand of miles of away from my dad for Father's Day (my folks travel every summer), but we spent a lovely day with my father-in-law. We went to an East Coast favorite, Silver Diner; the food is so fresh and delicious, and of course the company was great!

I made him this card using a KennyK image, a CTMH paper, and the last of my cityscape die cuts:

Funny story about the CTMH map-patterned paper: by pure coincidence, it's a map of the Bethesda, Maryland area, where is where my FIL lives! He noticed immediately, and we all had a laugh about it.

The cityscape is heat-embossed in Kaleidoscope/glitter powder. I inked the pieces with SU! Barely Banana. The ribbons were both purchased at CYDI.

I used the opposite side of the CTMH paper for the inside, and added a simple pop-up message:

The sentiment reads "Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad," and is by Paper Makeup.

Inspiration/Challenges:
CAS-ual Fridays #105: "Mapquest" (I know this is on the edge of CAS, but it's about as CAS as I get!)
Catered Crop: Masculine Card
There She Goes: Anything Goes

Thank you for visiting, and best to you & yours,

Super Dad

With Father's Day just around the corner, I pulled out one of my favorite digis, Huge Hero by KennyK, to make a funny card.

The duct tape piece is what was left on the roll...you know, after the sticky part's gone, some is stuck onto the cardboard roll? Well, I peeled that off and embossed it in my BigShot with a TH embossing folder. The birdie banner is Washi Tape.

The sentiment is from a Teddy Bo & Co. set (free with an issue of Simply Cards & Papercraft), and the airplane is a brad from my stash. I edged the skyline with a silver Sharpie.

Last year, my brother-in-law hired me to make some Thank-you cards for his Chiropractic office. He sent me the files for his logo, based on the Orlando skyline, and I have several pieces left over. You can read the whole story, and see similar projects, in this post.

Inspiration/Challenges:
ABC Challenge: Sketch #30 (oops, missed deadline!)
Cards For Men: Dad
ColourQ #191: Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Cool Caribbean + White
Crafty Creations #224: Superhero
Crafts 4 Eternity Recipe Challenge #126: 3 feature elements with the same letter (Brad, Banner, Birds)
Melonheadz Friends Challenge: Father's Day and/or Male-inspired
Whimsical Designs: Recycle (the duct tape is actually the remnant of a roll)

Update: I made ColourQ Courtier for the Color Combo #191! WOW, I am so super honored!

Cinco de Mayo

Growing up with the ridiculous Mexican stereotypes that dominated kitschy culture in Arizona, I tend to shy away from themes that might remind me of them, but I couldn't resist using this silly "Tequila Worm" by KennyK to make a Cinco de Mayo card featuring lyrics from the classic jam by War:

Cinco de Mayo has definitely become an American holiday, and I've been known to take a bit of tequila in celebration! I put the worm on Wobbles, lining it up with the background. The lyrics are set in the font Chalkduster.

The background, patterned paper is from Reminiscence's Celebration series; the multi-colored pattern at the bottom is actually part of the "cut-off" strip. I cut some swirls out of a DP from my stash, using a Sizzix die.

I can't remember the last time I had Aguila beer, but this bottlecap was in my stash! I flattened it in my Big Shot (using this YouTube tutorial) and decorated it with some tiny pearls. The pearls and bottle cap are glued on with Glossy Accents, but I used ZipDry for everything else.

The image is colored with Copics, except for the gold on the sombrero (Sakura metallic pen). I added blue Sparkly Fluff to the hat as well.

The white background is trimmed with deckle scissors & ink-distressed with SU! Wild Wasabi. I finished the card with some red Raffia ribbon.

Kenny K's Krafty Krew: Tic Tac Toe / 3rd row: Swirls, Digi, Ribbon, Die Cuts (plus pearls for good measure!)

Roy Lichtenstein-esque

I just had to try a "pointillist" technique on these fabulous digi stamps by KennyK Downloads

The sentiment stamp is from Rogue Redhead Designs' Just Sayin' set. I've been saving this last bit of this "hello bubble" ribbon in my stash for so long... need to find more!I added some microbeads with Glossy Accents.

Inspiration/Challenges:
Addicted to Stamps and More #42: Markers (images colored with Copics)
Card Crafter's Circle #72: Boys to Men (Masculine Cards)
Crafty Ribbons #44: Anything Goes with Ribbon
Charisma Cardz #16: Polkadots
Kenny K's Krafty Krew: Anything Goes (2nd entry)
Paper Playtime: More than 1 Fold

In a fairly hilarious coincidence, I got this flyer in the mail while working on this card:

Judging by the clutter on my table, looks like I could use a cleaning break! Oh, but there's so much crafting to do...!

Card Cupids February Drive: CPS Days 9 and 14 + Motivational Rock

Using the the sketches from Days 9 and 14 of the CPS 5th Anniversary Celebration, I made birthday cards for Card Cupid's February Drive:

CPS Day 9, Sketch #5
I cut down this Thomas the Cat pre-colored diecut from Lili of the Valley to match the rest of the shapes. I combines the balloons & sentiment from a Bentley Bear stamp set, and found a perfect matching cake in a set from Our Betty.

CPS Day 14, Sketch #45

I was really inspired by the Cropped Digi Image theme at Digi Makeover Challenges: it worked really well with Gab in the Groove from Just Some Lines. I stamped the white silk ribbon with a Great Impressions stamp in three colors of dye inks (pink, Fire Brick, and brown); this was inspired by the recent tutorial at the SP & Company Stamps blog. Thanks!

Update: The card I made for the Cropped Digi Image Challenge at Digi Makeover won the random prize! Thank you!

This month's challenge at Card Cupids is to "create a motivational card for a child", so I grabbed this cute DJ digi from KennyK Downloads, a sentiment from Create with TLC, & a fun Guitar Hero stamp set from StudioG (I think) and made this bright number (without any help from CPS!):
I'm thinking that I will add a "Happy Birthday" sentiment and send it in as part of their Birthday card drive.

Thanks to all for the inspiration! (All my cards for the CPS Celebration are archived here.)

That's all we really want

I bought this Anime DJ by KennyK a part of a Japan Disaster Relief fundraiser, but I'm just now coloring her. I thought she'd look good with this "splash" stamp. For the background, I used a Tim Holtz embossing plate to make a "splash".

The embellishment on the top is the same "splash" stamp, on Shrink plastic. The message section is actually a removable tag.
