Stick It Down

Back in May, I was inspired by the Stick It Down sketch to create a Get Well card. Not only was I honored with a Top 3 spot, I was asked to be the Guest Designer for their July Card Sketch Challenge. Their lovely sketch challenged me to make a mixed media card.

The sentiment, cork frame, grapes, wine glass, and gold coffee beans are all pre-made stickers. I made a bow with a scrap of ribbon & adhered it with a coffecup-shaped brad.

For the background, I used a Memory Box die to create a stencil from plain paper, then inked it onto white cardstock with Versamark ink & heat-embossed with a shiny violet powder. I then inked the white cardstock with two shades of green ink. I rounded the corners & mounted it on a black matte & white card base.

Pilin' on the Historical Puns

The theme this week at Pile It On is Not Cute. You can interpret that however you like, as long as the project doesn't feel cutesy. Our sponsor, SLS Lines, has lots of funky images, and I used this unique Marie Antoinette with Cupcakes to make this rather macabre birthday card:

I couldn't resist using this sentiment! Come on, all I know about Marie Antoinette is that she liked cake, met with a bad end, and bragged to have inspired the champagne glass. I feel a bit guilty about making light of it all, but I'm certainly not the first! I used the Zapfino font for the sentiment, printed it on white paper, and cut/embossed them with a Spellbinders die.

I used a glue pen to cover her hair with white flocking, cutting small slits in which to place the cupcakes and glasses. I printed the image twice, fussy-cutting the cupcakes out, but leaving some paper so that I could fit them into the slits. I added die-cut champagne glasses (from a Memory Box set) to her beehive to add to the decadence. The images are colored with Copics, and I used a Pearl Pen on her earrings.

The frame is a Silhouette cut file. I cut both layers from the same shiny gold paper, but I heat-embossed the top piece with gold powder. The crown-patterned paper is a DP from my stash.

Happy Birthday toast

I needed a last-minute Birthday card, so I scrounged through my stash for the components for this card. I made this little scene using stamps from Paper Smooches' Wake Up set.

I colored the image with Copic markers and added detail with glitter glue & Glossy Accents. The tiny glasses are cut from cork with a Memory Box die. I decorated the scalloped circle with Liquid Pearls. The background DP is by Studio Calico. The Loops were cut with a Sizzix border die from cork & a shiny Recollections paper. I also cut a border from a shiny green Core'Dinations cardstock and used some of the negative pieces in the Loops. I finished the card with my favorite corner punch & a shiny brown paper. This was a fun project to make, and I may use the concept again.

Neon Holiday Cheer

A couple of weeks ago, some friends & I had a fun-filled day hitting the local crafting stores. It's so much fun shopping with crafters; we wander around separately and then share our finds. The tough part is trying to decide what to actually purchase! One of the things I found was neon ribbon ... on sale! how could I pass that up‽ So I was super-excited to find an excuse to use my new neon-yellow ribbon for the Neon Color challenge at Merry Monday!

I had a difficult time getting a clear photo of the bright colors. Click to enlarge.

The snowflake-themed border, sentiment, and snowflake stamp are from Don & Daisy's Winter Fun collection by Marianne Design. I heat-embossed the borders in bright pink and neon orange. The snowflake was heat-embossed in the same pink powder. The sentiment was heat-embossed in a mix of the bright pink powder & glitter, and detailed with a hot pink gel pen.

The tiny "cups o' cheer" are cut from a pink metal sheet from Add a Little Dazzle with the Party Glasses die from Memory Box. I placed them on a strip of neon yellow ribbon. The card is backed onto a neon green cardstock.
