OSAAT November Prize Pack

This fortnight at One Stitch at a Time (OSAAT), our theme is Anything Goes with Giving Thanks.

I used Sunflower by Barbara Jensen to make this relatively simple Thank-you card:

I also had fun using this image last year for a notch-swing card. In fact, I think I used papers from the same Graphic 45 collection. It was definitely time-consuming to fussy-cut, but so worth it. The vase is fussy-cut from a FlowerSoft decoupage sheet, and the patterned papers are from Graphic 45.

The tag die & matching stamp are from a Cuttlebug set. I cut it from a pre-embossed cardstock, stamped it with Memento ink, and edged it with the same Copic I used for all the edging (E07). I tied the tag to the vase with a stitched green ribbon.

Simply Catty - Anything Goes at OSAAT

This week at One Stitch at a Time (OSAAT), our theme is Anything Goes. StitchyBear's Digi Outlet has hundreds of digital products from many wonderful artists, and if you use one of our products you'll be entered to win the super-duper main prize.

I used the Two Kittens set by Barbara Jensen, available at StitchyBear's Digi Outlet. The cats come separately, so you can arrange them however you like.

The window and window box dies are from Memory Box. Both were cut/embossed from a plain white cardstock, but the window box is coated with Crackle Paint. I covered a piece of manila cardstock with lace for the window background.

The sentiment is from the Paw Prints set by Ailie Busby, and the tag die & stamp are from a Doodlebug/Sizzix set. The pawprints are from a Studio G set, and heat-embossed directly onto the background in yellow.

The yellow tape is a true example of upcycling: it's medical tape! My husband had some blood drawn, and as soon as he came out of the office he said to me, "Wait until you see what they used to wrap my arm with! You'll love it!" How could I resist using it‽ I actually own some white medical tape like this; it didn't work for our medical purpose, so it got put it my crafting stash! I decorated this piece with a Washi tape and an adhesive die-cut tape.

Swingin' Sunflower

I used Sunflower by Barbara Jensen to create this Notch-Swing card:

This is one of my favorite techniques; I have no idea where I learned it. Does anybody recognize this technique and know it's proper name? I know I must have seen it somewhere. Basically, you make small slits or notches in a shape and fit in a slighter larger shape. This is easy to do with dies, but for this project I designed the card in SCAL and cut it with my electronic die-cutting machine, which made it easier to cut the frames as well. I've been hoarding this Graphic 45 sunflower/green pattern DP for at least a year, and when I saw this gorgeous Sunflower by Barbara Jensen that Melissa chose for me & my OSAAT teamies this week, I just knew it was time to use it. The paper on the bottom, with the stripes and sunflower border, is also a Graphic 45 DP, but not quite as long-hoarded.

For the opposite side, I printed a sentiment from TLC Creations onto a textured yellow paper.

Give Me a Buzz

But for now, it's time for another Anything Goes challenge at One Stitch at a Time!

If you follow my blog, you know that my teamie Vicky & I take turns choosing the image we'll work with. This time, Vicky really challenged me by picking Lady Bug by Barbara Jensen; it's a really fun image, but not my usual thing! I've seen several gorgeous cards using this image (including Vicky's!) and everyone seems to be making it a tiger... but I went a different way and made her a Bee Fairy.

Okay, I'll admit that I was happy to have a chance to use honeycomb! I embossed the left-hand side of the bee-patterned DP with Fiskars's Honeycomb texture plate. The border on the right is a stamp from Viva las Vegastamps, heat-embossed in translucent yellow.

I generated the sentiment & border in InDesign, stamped it with an Antique Linen ink background, and added a little bee stamp, again heat-embossed in translucent yellow.

The image background is colored with a Copic and texturized with Blender solution & Aida cloth (my favorite technique!) I colored the image itself with Copics and added glitter to the wings with a gel pen. I fussy-cut the fairy, rain it through my sticker machine, and covered it with a fine layer of yellow flocking.

I finish the card with some lace daisies and white & yellow Liquid Pearls.
