Believing with Unusal Folds with the Unstampabelles

Our theme this month at the UnstampaBelles challenge is: Believe (per our wonderful Blog Mistress Susan: "To have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something or someone, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so. Can be in a person or a myth or fairy tale or yourself"). with the optional twist of: Use an Unusual Fold.

You need to follow the twist to be considered as the DT Favorite, but you only have to follow main theme to win our prize. And remember, no stamps!

For my unusual fold I used the tutorial for a Spring Fold Card from Beccy's Place.

I made a silly yet elegant anniversary card for my amazing husband. "Potato wine" is my stupid joke for "Vodka" but Mom gave me this great potato topper and I knew it would make him laugh! I came up with the sentiment poem myself, obviously! He has always believed in me, for over 20 years!

Love One Another -- No Focal Image at International Art & Soul

This fortnight at the International Art & Soul Challenge we're challenging you to make a project with No Focal Image.

My neighbor commissioned me to make a card for her parents' 25th Wedding Anniversary. I was inspired by the Building Block Card tutorial at Beccy's Place.

I used some beautiful handmade papers, and a patterned vellum for the pop out portion. I heat embossed the sentiments in white on gold paper, and die cut the shapes. I used gold stickers for the numbers. This was made with a lot of love because the family is very special to our family. I'm so glad I was able to get it to them before the quarantine. Love to all during this difficult time.

We have a couple of wedding anniversaries in the family this week, so I made these simple cards featuring salt & pepper packets. This week's sketch challenge at Less Is More gave a place to start with the design, and I was also inspired by the fact that the salt & pepper packets that I used on the solid color card worked so well with this week's CAS-ual Fridays color challenge (Coral, Aqua, Gray).

I made a mask layer from white cardstock using a curved edge die, stamped the circle border from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps (using gray ink on the white & black ink on the coral), and heat-embossed it with a mix of chucky clear powder & glow-in-the-dark glitter. For the white card, I added a bit more clear chunky embossing powder to create a splash effect. I created the sentiment "Love is the Spice of Life" using the fonts Dimestore Hooker & Apple Chancery. The banner was handmade using a simple yet fun technique from s.e.i/Scor-Pal. The pepper packets on the white card and inked with VersaMark & QuickQuotes inks.

Halloweenniversary

My brother-in-law's wedding anniversary is October 31st, so I always enjoy making them a Halloween-themed anniversary card. I used these same stamps for their anniversary card last year, but I couldn't resist using them again in a new way.

I was inspired by the current One-Layer challenge at Less is More; I always find it very challenging, and since the twist is to use 2 of something, this stamp set seemed like a perfect fit. For once I can handle all that white space! 

I tried my hand (again) at the Color Combo at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, although the dark silver came out really bright in this photo. I heat-embossed the skeletons in black and painted in the details with Liquid Pearls.

Halloween Wedding Anniversary

My brother-in-law married his wonderful wife on Halloween last year, so I had some fun with their Halloween/Anniversary card!

The card base was cut from an October Afternoon paper, using the Circle Flip-its Sizzix Movers & Shapers L Die on my BigShot.  The spiderweb doilies are from Bird's Cards, and I designed the banner in SCAL. Both were cut on my Silhouette electronic die-cutting machine.

I made the corner embellishments by folding black lace seam binding over white paper, and adhering only one side, with Glossy Accents. Then I was able to fit the corner onto the card. I added Prima flowers with gold brads to two of the corners.

The skeletons are from a Studio G set, and heat-embossed in black on a shiny white paper. I cut the image out with a Spellbinders die. I colored the hat and hair bow with a silver Elmer's gel pen, and used a white Sakura glaze pen for the bowtie and skirt. I used a ZIG glue pen to fill the skeletons with glow-in-the-dark glitter.

A Very Special Anniversary

Today is my parents' 40th Wedding Anniversary. Which is awesome. Hey, just living 40 years ain't easy, and sharing your life with someone for any significant amount of time isn't easy either. They are both wonderful, strong individuals, and I'm really lucky to have them together as a great pair of parents.

Some people might have a party or something, but my folks are traveling, something they've always done together. I won't get to talk to them today, so I figured I could at least share my thoughts & the card I made.


I needed a tulip-and-top-hat image, so I asked the CDAC artists and got my hands on two great images. Thanks Shelly's Images and Pattie's Creations!

My folks were married in a hotel in Holland on a Friday night, which was a more expensive night because the Justice of the Peace wore his big top hat. By more expensive, I mean like $10, but it was a true sign of Dad's devotion and has been a story told throughout my life. The other part is that Mom ordered Red Tulips, as it's her favorite color. However, it seems that red tulips are traditional at funerals in Holland and yellow ones are traditional for weddings, so the florist sent her yellow tulips. And that's why the top-hat-and-red-tulips theme.

Yes, there are 40 hats! I printed and embossed them on vellum, and colored them on the back.
