Pilin' on the Sentiment

This week at the Pile It On Challenge we're challenging you to focus on the sentiment. We're sponsored by StitchyBear's Digi Outlet, so I used this quote by Thoreau from Dreams Sentiments by Coosty Creations.

Some years ago, my mom lent me some heavy-duty fringe scissors which I'm only now getting around to using! I went through my ever-growing scrap box for my ROY G BIV papers. I used my Silhouette Cameo to create the gold & white frames. I used a ruler & a blue gel pen to draw the out border.

I colorized the sentiment by Coosty Creations in Photoshop and printed it on a shiny white paper. I cut some clouds with an IO die on my BigShot from the same paper, and used them to frame the sentiment. To bring it all together, I added a gemstone embellishment which I had partially colored with a blue Copic.

I made the inside message section by masking the center, coloring it with Copics, and added a border with the same blue pen I used on the front. The little cloud inside is actually leftover from another project; it was stamped with blue ink & I added detail with a glitter pen.

Be sure to check out all the projects Pile It On! this week. My card ended up being very similar in design to Jenn's and similar in style to Helen's...great minds think alike I guess! Many thanks to the SBDO artists for letting us play with their great images.

Power of Love

OSAAT February Prize Pack
Tell everyone you see
How much better the world could be
For them and for you, for me
With the power of love.

Luther Vandross / Marcus Miller

After three wonderful years as part of the One Stitch at a Time (OSAAT) Design Team, I've decided that it's time for me to move on & become a customer! You can see all my OSAAT projects here.

This fortnight at OSAAT, our theme is Love. StitchyBear's Digi Outlet has hundreds of digital products from many wonderful artists. Even if you don't use a store image, you'll still be in the drawing to win the super-duper February prize pack.

For my farewell project I couldn't resist using The Power of Love by Stitchy Stamps. I used this digi stamp back in 2012 on a card for my handsome husband. This time, I used a quote from the song "Power of love/Love Power" by Luther Vandross (the full video is here).

I made a notch swing card, so the sentiment circle rotates to reveal a silver vinyl heart design from Silhouette.

The patterned papers, including the message section, are from Recollections' "Comic Heroes" collection.

Purple Poe

You still have a week to join the Purple challenge at One Stitch at a Time (OSAAT).

I had so much fun making my purple book box last week that I decided to make another, smaller version to hold a copy of "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe.

This box is roughly 2.5 x 2.125 inches, and features "Poe Bust" by Ikesart. I printed Poe on shiny ivory cardstock, and printed the raven on a regular white paper. I colored the bird with black & glitter gen pens, fussy-cut it, and placed him atop the pallid bust.

Say Something Purple

OSAAT January Prize Pack
This fortnight at One Stitch at a Time (OSAAT), our theme is Purple. StitchyBear's Digi Outlet has hundreds of digital products from many wonderful artists. Even if you don't use a store image, you'll still be in the drawing to win the super-duper January prize pack.

Purple is a special color to me; my husband and I share a love of the color, and he even wore a purple suit for our wedding! I decided to use the Book Stamp by Sentimental Susan to make this small book box.

The box template is from SVG Attic's discontinued Nevermore set (if anyone knows where I can purchase this file or something similar, please leave a comment). I love the scored page pieces! Used a purple cardstock for the binding, and covered it with a burlap-patterned paper. I inked the paper with Victorian Violet Brilliance pigment ink from Tsukineko.

I made the sentiment in InDesign and heat-embossed it in purple on a shiny white paper. I inked the piece with the same violet ink that I used for the burlap-patterned paper. The book digi stamps were colored with Copics and place on top of the piece. I used an embossing tool to create little lines on the books' pages.

I wrapped a striped grosgrain ribbon around the box, adhering it only to the front so that it would unwrap. To secure it, I used a tiny key charm from Cousin/Designs By Me. I put a little glittered flower on the ribbon's end-knot.

I wanted to be able to keep charms in the box, so I made a cover for the interior box. I used two magnet strips to keep it closed, and added another tiny key.

My "new" item is the gold-and-glitter peel-off stickers. I also used a new transfer sheet to make this New Year's shaker card using A Toast from Reece's Scrap Pieces as well as this great freebie sentiment from Coosty Creations.

I filled the card with a mix of clear & gold microbeads.

Pilin' on the Digi Paper

This week at Pile It On! we're challenging you to use Digi Paper and/or a Pre-colored Digi Stamp. We're sponsored by StitchyBear's Digi Outlet, so I used Coosty Creations' Zebra digi stamp & paper pack to create this funky card:
Okay, I have to admit something here: Even though I'm one of the sponsor coordinators at Pile It On! and actually chose this theme, I managed to completely run out of color printer ink & couldn't fit the purchase in before this card was due, so I chose to work with this black-and-white digi paper set.

Working from the black-and-white palette, I incorporated neon ribbon, buttons, and patterned papers as well as a neon-orange embossed version of the Zebra digi stamp. I printed the digi onto a shiny white paper, heat-embossed it, and added detail is a black gel pen.

I haven't done paper-weaving in quite some time, but I was inspired to try this technique again from a beautiful card fellow crafter Ike recently sent me.

I used a neon orange gel pen to add some hand-drawn detail to the inside message section.

One stitch at a time at OSAAT!

OSAAT December Prize Pack
This fortnight at One Stitch at a Time (OSAAT), our theme is Stitching. StitchyBear's Digi Outlet has hundreds of digital products from many wonderful artists. Even if you don't use a store image, you'll still be in the drawing to win the super-duper December prize pack.

I used the sweet Birds with Leaves from Gingerloft along with a lot of hand-stitching to create this texture-filled card:

I printed the digi stamp onto a linen-textured cardstock and colored it with Copics. I cut the piece out with a decorative die. I made a dotted border around the bird in InDesign so that it was easy for me to create the holes with an awl and hand-stitch the border with a mix of silver & blue threads. I used a needle to poke stitching holes on the image itself, and hand-stitched those details with the silver thread.

The sentiment was created in InDesign using the Home Sweet Home font, and also die-cut. I attached it to the card with a pretty stickpin, covering the pointy end with some white ribbon.

I created the background by printing out a stitching template on white cardstock, adhering it to a lovely patterned fabric, and hand-stitching it with silver thread. Time-consuming, but worth it! I pulled out some of the threads on the edges to give with a nice fringe.

Glittery wishes at OSAAT

OSAAT December Prize Pack

Using my Silhouette Cameo, I cut It's a Girl by Floppy Latte Designs from a shiny white paper. I took out some of the cut-out ieces and colored them green with a Copic. I backed the main piece with an adhesive-covered cardstock, re-added the cut-outs, and covered the whole with with a peach glitter. I added contrast to the sentiment with a pink Copic. All the patterned papers are by Graphic 45.
